In this talk, Prof. Jay Bernardo shares his experiences as an entrepreneur, a manager, and an educator to illustrate how the spirit of entrepreneurship can be imbibed by anyone who is willing to look at things from a different perspective. He talks about a groundbreaking entrepreneurship program in his very own JAD Group of Companies, as well as his work in the Let’s Go Foundation, which have helped many Filipinos break out into their own. He encourages people to develop business ideas by seeking solutions to “irritants” around them and urges his listeners to “look at the opportunity before looking at the dangers... because once you see the opportunities, you will no longer see the dangers.” Import.flv (18.6 MB)

In recounting the experiences and the epiphanies that led him onto the path of filmmaking, Quark Henares shows how pure passion can drive a person to achieve his ambitions. He shares how a dream project morphed from being the object of waking fantasies to being an actual production, and how its commercial failure allowed him to redefine success in his own terms. The talk’s highlight is Quark’s reenactment of a phone call he received from internationally acclaimed director Quentin Tarantino, showing how, indeed, the young filmmaker has come full circle from his early days of film-fantasizing. This talk by event sponsor Smart Communications shows how the “Why Not” attitude can be used to develop simple and ingenious solutions to everyday challenges and threats. Delivered by Public Affairs Head Ramon Isberto, it talks about how Smart has been helping communities use science in preparing for storms and their aftermath through the use of batingaw (early warning devices fashioned out of recycled acetylene tanks) and rain gauges. Citing that the Philippines has the highest number of Category 5 typhoons in the world, Mon underscores the importance of disaster-preparedness in local communities. Import.flv (14.1 MB)
